Think Well

5. Eden

March 17, 2025

If the first part of the story doesn’t sound like a good story, then the rest of the story will not make sense. So before we dive into “the fall” where creation breaks, let’s survey once more what they fell from.

Bliss.

Beauty.

Harmony.

Union.

Unbroken intimacy.

Radical transparency.

Joy without commas.

Good without evil.

Work without toil.

Life without death.

Meaning without suffering.

Fully known and fully loved.

No tension, no heartache, no mourning, no pain, no death,

Because there was no evil. No injustice, no cruelty, no corruption.

All we’ve known is life after the fall. We accept the intermingling of joy and despair believing the shadows give paintings depth. But it’s only because of our limited imagination.

If we stop and think, pay attention to our longings, think closely about desire, we will find that maybe, there’s a different way. Maybe we can have all the light of the world, without the darkness.

Humans once had it. That place was called Eden. And it was the stage of the fall.

And God saw everything that he had made, and behold, it was very good. Genesis 1:31

Adam and his wife were both naked, and they felt no shame. Genesis 2:25
